Your numbers
Use a month, a quarter or a single campaign — just keep it consistent.
Tip: if customers come back, use their full lifetime value, not one sale.
The math behind the numbers
How is marketing ROI calculated?
ROI = (revenue generated − marketing spend) ÷ marketing spend, shown as a percentage. A result of 300% means every ₹1 or $1 you spent brought back ₹4 / $4 in revenue (your dollar back plus three more). Below 0% means the marketing lost money over the period you entered.
What’s the difference between ROI and ROAS?
ROAS (return on ad spend) is simply revenue ÷ spend, expressed as a ratio like 4×. ROI subtracts the spend first, so it tells you the profit on top. ROAS of 4× is the same performance as ROI of 300%.
Should I use one sale or lifetime value?
If customers buy once, use the revenue from that one sale. If they come back — a dentist, a subscription, a repeat service — use their lifetime value instead. Lifetime value usually makes the true ROI far higher than a single transaction suggests, and it’s the honest number to plan budgets around.
Is this using real data from my website?
No — and that’s deliberate. It calculates only the numbers you type in, entirely in your browser. Nothing is fetched, sent or stored. For a view of your actual results you’d pull spend from your ad accounts and conversions from analytics or your CRM.
